August 2026
Between navigating the ongoing heatwave and processing the incredible flood of donations that have come through our doors, our team has been working hard over the summer months. Due to staff holidays, we had to temporarily close on Mondays, and with so much happening, our need for volunteers is greater than ever. If you have a few hours to spare, we would love to welcome you to the team.
Fun on the Rec Success
Our annual 'Fun on the Rec' event, hosted in partnership with the Leatherhead Community Hub, was another wonderful celebration of community spirit. We estimate that around 400 people joined us throughout the day, with many families staying the entire time. Visitors enjoyed our usual lineup of rides, attractions, face painting, crafts, glitter tattoos, and games, along with skateboarding lessons, a delicious BBQ, a bubble show, and music.
It is a true joy to offer this event completely free of charge and host our communities coming together. Except for a brief shower that had families temporarily ducking under the trees, the sun shone on a fantastic day. We are hugely grateful to everyone who donated their time, skills, and energy to make it happen, as well as the Wates Group, Clarion Housing, and the Leatherhead United Charities for generously funding the event.
We were also grateful to partner again with LCH to run the ‘Back to School’ initiative, which supported 75 children as they prepared for the new academic year. Eligible kids were kitted out with brand-new school uniforms, school bags, stationery, shoes, and even a fresh haircut for those who wanted one. LCH kindly provided lunch for the children, plus coffee and cake for the adults, while Grace Church hosted craft and games throughout the day.
It remains a immense privilege to support this wonderful community in every way we can. We never do this work alone and it is only made possible entirely through the collective generosity of people like you. Thank you for your ongoing support.
We are delighted to share our latest Impact Report with you. We created this report from a recent customer survey, and we are deeply encouraged by the responses, especially the many heartfelt comments from local families.
We've been making the most of the sunshine this summer, and it's been wonderful to see our community come together for our two events. From our fun day in the park to preparing families for the new school year, there's been no shortage of generosity, joy, and connection. Read on to find out what we’ve been up to and how, with your support, we’re continuing to make a difference in our community.
Fun on the Rec
This year, in partnership with the Leatherhead Community Hub, we delivered our biggest summer event yet. Over 500 people joined us for a fantastic day and working alongside 12 local organisations, we transformed the recreation ground into a vibrant space with activities for children.
LCH generously provided a free BBQ, while together we offered a wide range of games and activities – from crafts, sports, and glitter tattoos to trial boxing sessions. Thanks to the support of the Wates Foundation, we were also able to bring in professional face painters, three exciting rides, and hand out refreshing lollies during the hottest part of the day.
Back to School
For the second year running, we partnered with the Leatherhead Community Hub to deliver our ‘Back to School’ initiative, supporting local families as they prepared for the new academic year.
We’re incredibly grateful to Stripey Stork for providing all the school essentials, to the local hairdressers who generously gave their time and talent, and to St Andrew’s Church, Oxshott, Leatherhead United Charities and Leatherhead Parish Church for funding the school uniform vouchers.
It's always a joy to provide a free, family-friendly event during the summer holidays – a chance to bring people together, support local families, and celebrate the strength and spirit of our community.
The Hive is buzzing with creativity!
It continues to be a welcoming space for creative play, meaningful connection, and learning new skills. Just this morning, 14 people were busy crafting together – a great example of the community it fosters.
Last week, Marion temporarily closed her usual sessions to make space for a special week of Christmas prep. Her dedicated team was hard at work creating beautiful handmade items for upcoming markets – a great way to raise much-needed funds to support The Hive’s work. If you're local, why not support The Hive by purchasing some of these unique, handmade gifts?
